Election Results

Elections are all about numbers.

They are also all about pie charts and percentages.

If there is an election going on near you, then get the children to investigate the numbers.

How many seats did each party win last time? What happens this time?

What fraction, decimal fraction, percentage would that be of the total number of seats?

How would you work out the angles for your own pie chart and then draw it accurately?

This investigation leads children in thinking through step by step, how to build each of the necessary skills.

Ages 10-14    Printable materials (pdf) - 4 pages of teachers' notes and 8 pupil copymasters.
