Flights

If your current topic involves studying another country then you can get the children thinking about flight times.

How long would it take to get to the other country from your nearest airport? How far is it? What speed does the aeroplane travel at?

What about other journeys to other places?

Like a number of the other measurement investigations here, this one encourages the children to build a conversion table which they can then use to investigate distances to different destinations.

The same approach can be taken to investigating speeds.
