Metre Sticks are brilliant for learning about addition and subtraction And if you have base ten materials where the tens rods are exactly 10cm long, this really helps.

This activity covers adding and subtracting multiples of ten (20, 30, 40 etc) and builds up step, by step, from adding and subtracting 10s from a tens number, to adding and subtracting 10s from any number.

There is a strong emphasis on looking for patterns.
