How many each and altogether?

How many children have difficulty with problems in words? More than half?

The secret is to start early! And you need to get them asking questions as well as answering them.

There are three questions that are really important:
How many _____?
How many _____ in each ______?
How many _____ altogether?

This activity works big with hoops and bean bags and lets the children's imagination run riot with frogs in ponds, horses in fields, or hippos in swamps...

Ages 6-10    Printable materials (pdf) - Teacher's notes and prompt cards.
